This is a correspondence between George's mother and the United States Government. She is requesting that he buried in an overseas cemetery, with the other fearless soldiers who fought beside him. 

George Zaprala is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memoria Colleville-sur-MerDepartement du CalvadosBasse-NormandieFrance in plot A Row 20 Grave 3.

The site covers 172.5 acres.  It holds 9,387 American War Dead,  who mostly died during the landing and following operations.

He died on June 2, 1944, as a sergeant.  

This is another correspondence between the government and George's next of kin. In this letter, the United State's government is telling his father how he passed away, and what the next plan of action is. 


George Zaprala was awarded the Purple Heart, which is given to a service member who has made the ultimate sacrifice, either with injury or in George's case, death. It is an honorable award that celebrates those were selfless and brave enough to sacrifice for the country. 

This is the Air Medal award, which George Zaprala was also awarded. It was created to give to those who showcased bravery in aerial flight during combat situations. It highlights the true heroism of the pilots and all those involved in the Air Force. 

The World War II Victory Medal is a service medal of the United States military which was established by an Act of Congress on 6 July 1945. This medal is awarded for any active duty or Reserve service period between Dec. 7, 1941 and Dec. 31, 1946. George Zaprala was awarded this posthumously.

George Zaprala came from a family who worked hard to get where they were at, with an immigrant father coming from Germany to start a family. George made the ultimate sacrifice in order to protect the democracy of the United States and the freedom of the world. He was fearless, brave, selfless and much more. His dedication to the fight for freedom for all will never go unnoticed and he deserves to be celebrated for putting his life on the line for all citizens. His unwavering patriotism and valiant attitude has left its mark on history.
