This project shows to me that sacrifice is a choice and its not one that just anyone can make. Soldiers like George Zaprala were courageous and willing to put their life on the line in order to protect not just their homeland, but the justice and rights of everyone. Freedom is something that even today, we take for granted. If I could ask George questions, I would ask if he regret joining the military. Along those lines, I would ask why he decided to, since for some it is not an easy decision. The most important source was the IDPF file because it was 123 pages of information that shows what goes on behind the scenes when a service member dies and it gives a more personal insight into what these families were going through.

This project redefined gratitude for me because frequently, we tend to perceive individuals like Zaprala from the past merely as statistics or fleeting memories. However, it is crucial that we remind ourselves that they were real people with lives and families. It is important to acknowledge that they made the ultimate sacrifice: a sacrifice that has left an indelible mark on our lives. Through my research, I have come to deeply appreciate the soldiers who fought in World War II, and we must always remember and honor their profound contributions to the world we inhabit today.
